Chronicles of a Lizard Nobody

When Principal Wombat appoints monitor lizards Zeke, Daniel, and Alicia as hall monitors, Zeke is sure any chance of popularity at his new school is gone. The reptiles arrived through a district blending program and were mostly ignored before, but they still stand out among zebras, ostriches, and elk. Alicia says the principal has a strategy - mammals are intimidated by reptiles who can yell, or hiss, at them. Principal Wombat is simply putting her resources to use.

Zeke doubts the plan until he runs into Pelicarnassus, a pelican who is more than a bully - he's a notorious international supervillain, at least when his mother isn't around. Maybe the school hallways really are a battlefield that needs a hero, even if Zeke isn't sure he's the one. With black-and-white illustrations and graphic appeal, this middle-grade series debut mixes humor with themes of grief, bullying, and learning to navigate differences.
