Holler of the Fireflies

In Holler of the Fireflies, a shy 12-year old Javari, a Black boy from Brooklyn, attends a STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) camp in rural West Virginian Appalachia. He knew that West Virginia would be different from his home in Bushwick, Brooklyn but his first day at STEM Camp in this little Appalachian town was still a shock. Although the subject matter is what he loves most, the thought of meeting new people was nearly enough to make him stay safely at home. Not until he meets Cricket, a local boy, budding activist, and occasional thief does he see another side of the holler and boy does it blow his mind!
