House of Roots and Ruin by Erin A. Craig follows seventeen-year-old Verity Thaumas, who dreams of adventures far beyond her family's estate, Highmoor, but has remained there with her older sister Camille. Their other sisters have dispersed across the land of Arcannia. When Verity receives an invitation to paint a portrait of Alexander Laurent, the son of the Duchess of Bloem, she eagerly agrees.
